WHAP - 11/9/10

Today we will be finishing up the schism of the Church, discussing the Kievan Rus, and starting Chapter 10 by becoming lords, vassals, and serfs.  Most likely we will continue Chapter 10 onto Thursday, but we need to speed through.

WHAP - 11/5/10

Quite a few of you will not be in class today due to the Rice DREAM fieldtrip.  You will need to attend HR Tutorials with me on MONDAY and TUESDAY.  We will be covering a lot--the Byzantine Empire, the Kievan Rus, the Catholic Church's East/West split which results in the Orthodox Church.  You need this stuff for the rest of the year.

Homework:
1.  Read, highlight, and score the 2008 Released DBQ (on the Olympics) that you wrote.   I would also jot in the margins what you are giving points for off to the side of the passage in case I ask.

I told everybody but first period to come pick up their essay after school, and everyone was supposed to tell the first period students.  Not everyone came to collect (3rd period-looking at you!).
                                                                   DUE TUESDAY!!!!

2.  Some of you have received tutorial passes.  I expect you every Monday during HR at the minimum from now until your grades improve to a point where you can be released into the wild again(which will be determined by me).

3.  Read pages 225-236.  Notecards are as follows:
Medieval Theologians (Peter Abelard, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Thomas Aquinas) - you should say what the general thought at this time was-look at the second paragraph under "Theology: Assimilating Faith and Reason"
Scholasticism - add (in class since i have your cards.  it's the first thing you should do when you get in here)
Popular Religion - think about it, what does popular mean here?  make sure you are thinking of the right "popular" before doing your card
Christian Art in the Middle Ages
Gothic Architecture
Medieval Literature
European Economy in the M.A. - look at pages 219-220 as well as 229-230
Banking and Trade in M.A. - Haneseatic League must be in there and bolded!  that is a biggie

The Hundred Year's War - this card has technology and government aspects to it.  Make sure you list the facts and explain why it was such a turning point.
Black Death and it's effects
Decline of the Middle Ages - you need to specifically look at the transition of the aristocracy, the church/state issues and the papacy's move to France, and intellectualism.

WHAP - 11/3/10

We are going over the DBQs you graded a week ago.  We will be looking at your grades, comparing them to the actual grades received, and discuss discrepancies.  Also, we will be looking over your DBQ and possibly peer grading if there is time.

Homework:
